Energy Justice Education Task Force

The California Alliance for Community Energy is a statewide network of activists, advocates, and grassroots organizations committed to supporting and defending locally controlled, community-determined renewable energy programs. Our task forces serve our shared mission to advance local clean energy for the environmental, economic, and social justice benefits of California’s communities.

Making Energy Policy Make Sense

California’s energy system is complicated by design, and the communities most affected by it are often the ones with the least access to understand it. This Task Force exists to close that gap.

Energy Justice Education Task Force Activities

  • Translates complex energy policy language into accessible, community-centered materials
  • Builds curriculum, workshops, and creative educational tools that help communities advocate for themselves

The Problem

California’s energy system is often highly technical and inaccessible to the communities most impacted by policy decisions.

Our Solution

This task force focuses on energy education as a tool for environmental justice.

Why This Work Matters

The California energy market is intentionally designed to be complex and confusing. Monopoly utilities use technical jargon to keep everyday ratepayers in the dark while raising rates and blocking clean energy. The Energy Justice Education Task Force translates complex policy into plain language, empowering frontline communities to fight back and demand equitable energy solutions.

Task Force Participation

Task Forces are open to any member ready to engage more deeply in shaping and implementing our work. Task forces are not limited to energy experts. You only need to be interested, committed, and ready to collaborate to get involved.

If you believe that knowledge is power, we need your perspective. The Energy Justice Education Task seeks:

Storytellers & Creatives

Writers, graphic designers, and communicators who can distill dry policy into compelling, urgent narratives.

Educators & Translators

Teachers, community leaders, and bilingual speakers who excel at making complex information accessible to everyday people.

Policy Analysts

Individuals who can read a dense CPUC ruling and quickly identify the core threat to ratepayers.

What You Could Do on This Task Force

We build the educational infrastructure for the statewide movement. As a member of this task force, you might:

  • Help design and facilitate our Monthly Statewide Calls, identifying speakers and shaping the agenda.
  • Draft myth-busting fact sheets, op-eds, and action alerts that decode utility propaganda (like the “cost shift” fallacy).
  • Create accessible graphics, presentation decks, or social media toolkits for partner organizations to use.
  • Collaborate directly with environmental justice groups to ensure our materials speak directly to the needs of working families and vulnerable communities.

How to Get Involved

Contribution levels are flexible. You can contribute by taking on a single, discrete task, like proofreading a fact sheet or designing a graphic, or by taking a leadership role organizing statewide educational campaigns. By joining, you help ensure that communities have the knowledge and tools they need to protect themselves from utility overreach and advocate for a just energy transition.
