The June Statewide call featured two speakers. Al Weinrub, longtime Coordinator of the Alliance, presented on the growing threat of corporate utility absolute control of a centralized energy system; a plan very much in progress in California.
Yesenia Rivera, from the Energy Democracy Project, took us through The People’s Utility Justice Playbook, a popular educational resource that Yesenia helped develop. The Playbook gives people background information about the threat and several tools to fight back against the corporate utilities.
Recent actions by Californian decision-makers – the wildfire bailout, the blow to rooftop solar from NEM 3.0, the current fixed-fee proposal before the CPUC — all point to the success of the corporate utilities’ power grab. Most of the people in the state may not even realize the danger. We need popular educational resources so we can build a knowledgeable, diversified and well-equipped resistance.
