More than 200 California cities and counties are powered by Community Choice agencies (CCAs), serving more than 11 million customers. CCAs now supply about 40% of the energy previously controlled by California’s three monopoly utilities – PG&E, SoCal Edison, and SDG&E. As a result, CCAs are woven into California’s energy future and will be responsible for a majority of future energy projects.
Unfortunately, many CCAs in California have failed to adopt strong workforce and environmental justice (EJ) standards for their energy projects. This has resulted in a less-than-stellar track record of projects with weak community and worker protections compared to the IOUs.
We are pleased to welcome back Erik Veium, a co-founder of the Alliance, to discuss why growing a sustainable workforce is critical to accelerating decarbonization and supporting communities. His Make Green Jobs Good Jobs campaign advocates for healthy, sustainable, and equitable energy for California by codifying strong EJ and workforce standards in CCAs. The goal is to establish this policy as an industry standard and best practice for all CCAs.
Statewide calls are for Alliance members only. To participate, please complete our application to join.
