Whether through legislative measures like AB 1139 to kill local renewables, ongoing and unpredictable charges like the PCIA, and many other actions the Alliance has fought over the years, we know that the investor-owned utilities (IOUs) see it in their interests to fight decentralized clean energy at energy opportunity. What motivates them to do this? This month’s statewide zoom conversation will focus on the IOU business (profit) model that drives IOU opposition to community energy.
We’re fortunate to have Crystal Huang of People Power Solar Coop (also Coordinator of the national Energy Democracy Project) on hand to kick of this discussion with a brief presentation followed by some remarks from Eric Veium, Steering Committee Emeritus of the Alliance, to reflect on how the IOU business model has infected Community Choice agency thinking.
