California’s current electrical planning processes consistently call for a greater amount of utility-scale generation and a build-out of costly transmission infrastructure. This 20th century mentality has led to the second highest electrical rates in the nation, with double digit increases on an annual basis, and a state not currently on track to meet climate & energy goals.
This month’s statewide member call will feature Ben Schwartz, policy director for the Clean Coalition, a nonprofit organization dedicated to accelerating “the transition to renewable energy and a modern grid through technical, policy, and project development expertise.”
Ben’s presentation will explain why a massive infrastructure build-out is not the most cost-effective or efficient way to address issues of climate resiliency, rising bills, and other imperatives arising from today’s centralized energy system. He will also provide solutions to help get us back on track and address the benefits of getting to at least 25% local energy.
