To kick of our fall series of statewide calls, this month the Alliance explores another aspect of Virtual Net Energy Metering. Here again, there is a draconian decision pending before the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC).
In their proposed decision, the CPUC continues their inexorable, utility-backed destruction of solar energy’s contribution to both energy independence and our climate objectives. The current proposed decision will block apartments, farms and schools from using their own rooftop solar to reduce their electricity bills. This proposal is strongly opposed by environmental justice groups, affordable housing tenants and managers, schools and farmers.
The Alliance has invited three speakers who will each address the impacts of the proposed decision from their vantage points:
- Roger Lin, Senior Attorney, in the Climate Justice Program of the Center for Biological Diversity;
- Tyler Valdes, Energy Equity Manager, California Environmental Justice Alliance; and
- Igor Tregub, Senior Policy Advisor for Reimagine Power, who will also provide his perspective as a member of his renters council.
This outstanding team will provide an overview of the CPUC’s current proposal, the expected impacts to users and the community, and, finally, what you can do to help.
