Task Forces

Organizing for Action

Where Members Move From Listening to Leading

Members of our issue-based task forces share their knowledge, expertise, and enthusiasm for collaboration.

What Task Forces Are

Our Task Forces, launched in 2026, build on the foundation we’ve already created together.

Over the past year, we strengthened statewide coordination, hosted consistent Statewide Calls, and deepened relationships across California’s community energy landscape.

Deeper Member Engagement

Task Forces serve as a direct extension of our statewide calls and create dedicated spaces for members who want to:

  • Engage more deeply
  • Support research and communications
  • Help shape statewide strategy
  • Strengthen outreach and membership
  • Contribute to coordinated statewide action

If you’ve been looking for a way to move from listening to leading, this is your opportunity.

Community Renewables

Breaking Down Barriers to Community-Based Renewable Energy

This task force works to clear regulatory hurdles standing between California communities and locally-owned renewable energy.

Task Force Activities:

  • Identifies the legal, legislative, and regulatory challenges blocking the expansion of community-based renewable energy
  • Finds ways  to advance community renewables, even within the constraints of current state regulations
  • Helps get pilot projects off the ground, from early identification through practical implementation
  • Expands real-world alternatives that strengthen local energy resilience and independence

Energy Justice Education

Making Energy Policy Make Sense

California’s energy system is complicated by design, and the communities most affected by it are often the ones with the least access to understand it. This Task Force exists to close that gap.

Task Force Activities:

  • Translates complex energy policy language into accessible, community-centered materials
  • Builds curriculum, workshops, and creative educational tools that help communities advocate for themselves

Community Choice Agencies

Pursuing Energy Solutions for California Communities

This task force examines the role Community Choice Agencies (CCAs) play in advancing, or potentially limiting, community-centered energy solutions.

Task Force Activities:

  • Examines how CCAs are operating across California
  • Looks at where CCAs are aligning with distributed energy and community power goals, and where there are opportunities to improve
  • Explores strategies for engagement, accountability, and partnership with CCAs so they fulfill their promise of serving communities first
